Androgenic Alopecia: Its Cause and Possible Solutions

About 40% of men experience hair loss patterns by the age of 35 or older, while60% of women experience hair loss patterns by the age of 60.  There are many reasons for hair loss and although everyone is different, one of the leading causes is due to androgenic alopecia. This form of hair loss is more commonly known as pattern baldness and although men are at a significantly higher risk, women can also suffer from androgenic alopecia.
Studies have shown (1) that this particular form of hair loss is caused by hormones called androgens, hence the name androgenic alopecia. These hormones play an important role by regulating sex drive and hair growth in both males and females.  The most common culprit of androgenic alopecia is the male sex hormone, Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which can also be found in trace amounts in women.
DHT_stages
DHT is a derivative of the more commonly known hormone, testosterone and with increased levels binding to follicle receptors located on the scalp, comes an increase in hair loss. While the level of testosterone in women are significantly lower than in men, the production of DHT can still occur and even rise, resulting in further hair loss as it shrinks the hair follicles making it difficult for future hairs to grow.
While there is no cure for male or female pattern baldness, there are a variety of ingredients and Hair Loss Treatments that can be applied topically or taken orally to slow down the hair loss process.  The following ingredients block the production of DHT and can be found in Regenepure DR and Regenepure NT Shampoo.
Saw Palmetto
This natural herb has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes.  More recently, studies suggest that saw palmetto helps in treating male and female pattern baldness by blocking the enzyme (5-alpha-reductase) which converts testosterone into DHT.
Vitamin B6
One of the ways in which people can experience further hair loss is through vitamin deficiency.  While some vitamins may be difficult to intake through diet alone, there are many supplements that can be taken to avoid vitamin shortage to improve hair regrowth.  One of the best vitamins for this particular issue is Vitamin B6 as it blocks the production of DHT and enhances hair color and quality.  This particular vitamin also provides hair regrowth benefits when applied topically.
Caffeine
Although a dangerous amount of caffeine would need to be ingested to fight hair loss, there are a number of caffeinated topical solutions that have been proven to fight the formation of DHT, while stimulating the scalp and hair follicles.
